Chara, Liles both out for Bruins vs. Flyers

PHILADELPHIA -- The Bruins will be down two veteran D-men when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers with the news that both Zdeno Chara and John-Michael Liles didn’t travel with the team to the Wells Fargo Center. Chara was due to skate on his own again back in Boston on Tuesday, and will miss his fourth game with a lower body injury on Tuesday night.

There’s also expected to an update on Liles’ upper body injury at some point prior to puck drop against the Flyers. Needless to say it doesn’t sound particularly encouraging for the veteran puck-moving D-man after he crashed face-first into the boards during the weekend win over the Lightning.

It will also be a challenge for a B’s back end that’s now down a pair of veteran blueliners that had been a steadying influence.

“We talked about it when [Chara] went down and now we’ve got another veteran going down,” said Claude Julien. “I think our guys answered the challenge really well [against Tampa] and we’re going to need them to do it again. There’s nothing we can except ask those guys to play extremely well and step up their game as best they can.”

There were no call-ups for the Bruins while down two D-men, so the lineup will be similar to what it looked like against Tampa Bay with Tuukka Rask once again getting the nod between the pipes. Here are the projected line combos and D-pairings vs. the Flyers based on morning skate at the Wells Fargo Center:

Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak

Schaller-Krejci-Backes

Beleskey-Nash-Czarnik

Spooner-Moore-Hayes

Krug-McQuaid

K. Miller-Carlo
