Torey Krug has been with the Boston Bruins since he came into the league eight years ago. And he doesn't want to leave any time soon.
Per our own Joe Haggerty, Krug didn't mince words when talking about his future in Boston at the team's post-Stanley Cup Final media availability. He said that he wants to stay with the team "forever."
If Krug wants to stay in Boston long-term, he will have to work out a contract extension in the near future. After the 2019-20 season, Krug will become an unrestricted free agent. And as Haggerty mentioned, the Bruins are heading into "unknown waters" so they may shake up their core. Regardless, it seems that Krug wants to stay if he's able to.
Krug last signed a contract extension in June of 2016 when he agreed to a four-year, $21 million deal with the Bruins. He will make $5.5 million in the final year of that contract in the upcoming season, per Spotrac.com.
Krug, 28, put up 53 points for the Bruins last regular season before adding 18 in the postseason. He was the first Bruins player to record a four-point game in the Stanley Cup Final as well. The left-shot defenseman has played well when paired with Brandon Carlo, and it will be interesting to see if the Bruins prioritize keeping him around, especially in wake of these positive comments.
