Morning Skate: Throwing silver away

Share

*The World Junior tournament wrapped in Buffalo where Team Canada won in the last few minutes of the third period and the Swedish captain threw his silver medal into the stands right after it was awarded to him. I get the emotion of the moment, but that kid shouldn’t be a captain if he reacts that way.

*The new owner of the Carolina Hurricanes has met great success betting on himself, and he’s doing it again in purchasing the Canes.

*The NHL All-Star Game captains have been announced, and now the Hockey News takes a look at what the full roster will look like. Their Atlantic Division mock team has Bruins defenseman Torey Krug making the team, and the quartet of Tuukka Rask, Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand all missing the cut from the team. If that’s the case, then this All-Star Game format needs a full investigation because that’s the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever head.

*The great start for the Vegas Golden Knights is even more impressive than it seems, according to Pro Hockey Talk.

*It sounds like Ryan Getzlaf is having some problems with the officiating of the Anaheim Ducks games. I’m not sure this is going to help.

*For something completely different: If I see a hand-written note that says “I resign as HC of the NEP” I am going to be pissed.
