Complete ACL tear for Edelman as Patriots had feared

Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has a "complete ACL tear" in his right knee and will need season-ending surgery.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated's MMQB.com was first to report that the MRI showed the ACL tear.

The news confirms what had been widely reported Friday night after Edelman injured his knee in the first quarter of the Patriots' preseason victory over the Lions in Detroit.
