The Boston Red Sox were trailing the Baltimore Orioles at 6-0 midway through the third inning of the final game of their series at Fenway Park. However, a wild sixth inning put them back on top, as the team was able to plate six runs during the frame.
The inning started innocently enough for the Orioles, who led 6-3 at the start of the inning. J.D. Martinez cracked a double to center and Andrew Benintendi hit a sacrifice fly to move him to third base. But after a Sam Travis walk and an RBI double by Christian Vazquez, lefthanded specialist Paul Fry came into the game for the Orioles.
And that's when things really started to go off the rails for Baltimore.
Fry was able to get Mitch Moreland to weakly pop the ball into left field. It should've been the second out of the inning, but instead, this happened (via the Red Sox official Twitter).
So, not only did the team fail to record the second out, but the drop and error on the throw afforded the Red Sox an opportunity to score the game-tying run.
From there, the team kept scoring. Rafael Devers notched his 99th RBI of the season on a go-ahead double while consecutive RBI infield hits gave the Red Sox some extra cushioning. The team had a chance to extend their 9-6 lead with the bases loaded, but Travis struck out looking at the plate to end the inning.

Adding to the weirdness of the inning was the fact that the Orioles used four different pitchers and were forced to switch catchers as well. Chance Sisco took a shot on the game-tying bloop single while trying to grab the overthrow and while he would stay in the game, he eventually left after taking a hard foul ball to the groin area.
These things, plus all the fielding mistakes by the Orioles, made for some very interesting baseball on Sunday afternoon at Fenway.
