The Houston Texans have been active on the trade market during NFL roster cuts. And one of their moves involved a trade with the New England Patriots.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Patriots are trading Keion Crossen to the Patriots. The Texans will surrender a sixth-round pick in the deal, per John McClain of The Houston Chronicle.
By trading Crossen, the Patriots are opening up a roster spot that they evidently will use on return man/receiver/defensive back Gunner Olszewski. Originally, the team had announced that they would waive him, but they have apparently reversed course on that decision. Perhaps they feared that Olszewski wouldn't make it through waivers.
Either way, making the 53-man roster is not bad for a guy who was literally digging a ditch when the Patriots called to invite him to a workout (per Rapoport).
Crossen was an undrafted free agent out of Western Carolina. He played in 11 games for the Patriots last season and logged 14 tackles, contributing mostly on special teams.
