The in-limbo Kyrie Irving-Isaiah Thomas trade will happen, according to an unlikely source, ESPN's Dick Vitale.
The college basketball maven tweeted about the trade Wednesday morning:
There's no word on if the Celtics will have to add anything to the trade or even if the deal will have to be modified after the Cavaliers balked at the trade following Thomas' physical last week that led to the Cavs' concerns over his recovery from a hip injury.
As it stood last week, the trade was Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Celtics' 2018 first-round pick, via the Brooklyn Nets, going to the Cavs for Irving.
The teams reportedly had discussions on Tuesday and the deadline to complete the deal is Thursday.
