Jayson Tatum's tweet spices up Celtics head coach speculation

The search for the next Boston Celtics head coach -- and all the speculation that comes with it -- is on.

Brad Stevens is the team's new president of basketball operations after Danny Ainge retired from that role Wednesday. That means the C's need a new head coach, and Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix reports the team will begin their search by interviewing internal candidates.

Those developments sparked rumors that Evan Turner, who joined the Celtics as an assistant coach in January after retiring as a player last November, could land Boston head coach job. After all, Turner played some of the best basketball of his career under Stevens during his two seasons with the Celtics from 2014 to 2016, and perhaps the C's would want a young voice who can relate to their current players.

Who will be next C's coach? Potential replacements for Stevens

Apparently Celtics star Jayson Tatum was thinking the same thing Wednesday -- or he was just messing with Turner. Here's what Tatum tweeted in response to Turner shutting down rumors that he's taking the C's coaching job:

Turner has a bit of a trolling reputation, so we wouldn't be surprised if Tatum was giving his boss a taste of his own medicine.

Still, it's noteworthy that Boston's best player is tweeting about the team's coaching search. The 23-year-old Tatum and the 24-year-old Jaylen Brown are the Celtics' franchise cornerstones, so the team's new head coach will need to work well with the two young stars.

If Turner is to be believed, though, that head coach isn't him.
