Talking Points: Ortiz' bat, Porcello's arm, Marlins' errors

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: David Ortiz
The Red Sox had just five hits, but two of them were extra-base hits by Ortiz -- a two-run homer in the third and a leadoff double that led to another run in the sixth.

HONORABLE MENTION: Rick Porcello
Porcello had his requisite rough inning after the Red Sox scored, giving two runs back to the Marlins. But he settled in after that and finished well to earn his first win since May.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Tom Koehler
Koehler allowed five runs in six innings, and though only one of them was earned, it was his own throwing error in the third which led to the Red Sox' four-run inning.

TURNING POINT: After allowing two runs to the Marlins in the fourth and seemingly about to implode, Porcello followed with two perfect innings in the fifth and sixth.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Marlins allowed eight unearned runs in the two series.
