Talking Points: Boyd pummeled in first inning

Share

STAR OF THE GAME: Alejandro De Aza

De Aza continues to take advantage of the playing time he's been given, turning in a three-hit night and knocking in four runs while scoring two others.

HONORABLE MENTION: Xander Bogaerts

Bogaerts had four singles and nearly had himself a fifth hit before Kevin Pillar ran down a ball on the warning track in the ninth. He also knocked in two runs and scored one.

GOAT OF THE GAME: Matt Boyd

The Toronto starter faced seven hitters in the first inning and didn't record an out. All seven eventually scored, making for a short and ugly night for the rookie.

TURNING POINT: When the Red Sox raced to an 8-0 lead before the Blue Jays came to bat, it seemed like a laugher. But with the Jays responding with four runs in the second and adding baserunners in the fourth and fifth, this one wasn't secured until the Sox tacked on three more in the seventh.

BY THE NUMBERS: De Aza's triple in the first inning was his third in the last four games and fifth for the Red Sox since June 16.
