Sox call up pitcher Noe Ramirez to add bullpen depth

BOSTON -- The Red Sox called up Noe Ramirez on Friday to provide some bullpen depth after using a few righties over the last couple games in Toronto.

Ramirez's appearance in a game will be his Major League debut, as the fourth-round pick in 2011's June Draft has spent the 20145 season with the PawSox. He's compiled a 4-0 record with a 2.42 ERA, 11 walks, and 23 strikeouts in 16 games.

Ramirez's last three appearances for the PawSox have been scoreless (4.0 IP), and he's held opponents to a .077 batting average in that span.

"Right-handed reliever but he's been a closer throughout the minor league career," John Farrell said. "It's a different arm slot. There's some sink to his fastball. And we've had a little bit of turnover on that bullpen and some guys pressed into action that we need to get a fresh arm here."
