The Red Sox provided good medical news, and some interesting news regarding tonight's game, to reporters traveling with the team in Toronto:
-- David Price threw a 20-pitch bullpen session, all fastballs, in his first time on a mound since July 22. Manager John Farrell told reporters it still hasn't been determined whether Price will return to the rotation or work out of the bullpen once -- or if -- he's ready to pitch. Even if he is, there may not be enough time for him to build the arm strength to start by the time the postseason begins.
-- Farrell said Dustin Pedroia ran well on the bases and that there's "a real possibility" he'll be activated this weekend in New York.
-- Farrell also said Carson Smith will likely join the Red Sox next Tuesday, the day after the PawSox season ends.
-- Both Craig Kimbrel and Addison Reed will be unavailable tonight, as both have worked three consecutive days. Farrell said the Sox would use a bullpen by committee.
