Glass fined by NHL for butt-ending McQuaid in the head

BOSTON – A peeved energy forward for the New York Rangers will be shelling out a few thousand dollars after jabbing a Bruins defenseman in the head with his stick in a very reckless play at the end of Saturday afternoon’s matinee between Boston and New York.

Tanner Glass was fined the maximum $3,987.15 by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Saturday evening after butt-ending Adam McQuaid in the forehead at the end of the third period in Boston’s 4-2 win over the Rangers at TD Garden. It happened during a scrum in the corner just as the third period was set to expire in a game soundly won by the Bruins. Glass was given a game misconduct as well as a five minute major for the butt-ending.

The Glass attack appeared to be retaliation after the winger was slammed in the corner on a big hit from Matt Bartkowski with five minutes to go in the game that resulted in Bartkowski and John Sheppard dropping the gloves in a third period fight.

Glass was assessed a five minute major for butt-ending at the end of the game, and McQuaid was left bloodied on the ice after the incident. The rangy defenseman was sporting a big welt over his left eye in the postgame dressing room, but indicated that he was okay after the dirty play from New York’s fourth line grinder.
