Sherman critical of NFL double-standard in Brady case

Richard Sherman coming to Tom Brady's defense?

The Seattle Seahawks outspoken cornerback, beaten by Brady and the Patriots last February in the Super Bowl, told USA Today that the NFL going after the Pats QB exposes a double standard when it comes to the league's punishment.

“You’re fining players more than you’re fining organizations?” Sherman said. “That should bring up some red flags. But nobody’s talking about that.”

The Patriots were fined $1 million and lost a first-round draft pick as punishment for Deflategate. Brady, who has maintained his innocence, was fined $1.8 million and faces a four-game suspension that he is fighting in court.

More from Sherman in USA Today:

“Last year, Jim Irsay got fined what, 500 grand?” Sherman said, referring to the Indianapolis Colts owner, who was suspended for six games and fined $500,000 as discipline for his misdemeanor DUI case.

“Owners can only be fined so much. There’s a cap. And Brady gets fined (roughly $2 million). Whether the crimes are the same or not, a suspension is a suspension, a fine is a fine. Game checks.”
