MIAMIPaul Pierce has increased his workload during practices, trying to get back on the floor as soon as possible.
But according to Doc Rivers, Pierce's progress won't result in him seeing any playing time on the team's current road trip.
Not only did Pierce not play Tuesday night against the Miami Heat, but Rivers has also ruled the Captain out for Wednesday night's game in New Orleans.
"He's feeling better, there's no doubt about that," Rivers said. "He won't play Wednesday, either. I can safely say that. Maybe the home opener (against Detroit on Dec. 30)."
Sasha Pavlovic will get the start in place of Pierce, with Marquis Daniels likely to see action at the small forward position as well.
