NBA rumors: Celtics believed to have ‘serious interest' in Tyler Herro

The 2019 NBA Draft is just a few hours away and the Boston Celtics still own three first-round draft picks.

The Celtics' first pick Thursday night is at No. 14, and they could go in several different directions. Point guard is an obvious need with both Kyrie Irving and Terry Rozier potentially departing in free agency. Center also is a position to upgrade if Al Horford departs as a free agent and/or Aron Baynes is traded.

Boston also needs scoring, especially if Irving takes his talents elsewhere, and Kentucky shooting guard Tyler Herro could provide offense off the bench as a rookie.

Sports Illustrated's Jeremy Woo has Herro going to the Celtics at No. 14 in his latest NBA mock draft, and he also reported on the Celtics' interest in the Kentucky star.

Herro would be an attractive fit with the Celtics, who league sources believe have serious interest in him, and certainly lack clarity with their backcourt going forward.

Herro reportedly "blew away" the Celtics during a workout June 4.

He averaged 14 points and 4.5 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Wildcats, while also shooting 35.5 percent from 3-point range and 93.5 percent at the free throw line.

Oregon big man Bol Bol is another potential fit for the Celtics, but he's probably more of a target for Boston with the No. 20 or 22 pick rather than No. 14.
