The Red Sox have placed second baseman Dustin Pedroia on the 10-day DL with left knee inflammation.
Pedroia (.307, six homers, 54 RBI, .791 OPS) hasn't played since Friday. Recently acquired Eduardo Nunez has been playing second base in his absence and hitting well (8-for-17 with two homers and five RBI in four games).
To take Pedroia's spot on the roster, the Red Sox activated reliever Addison Reed, acquired before the trade deadline Monday from the New York Mets.
