BOSTON - Maybe it was just a bad case of the Mondays.

After a lackluster performance against the Indians on Monday night, the Red Sox returned on Tuesday and jumped all over them from the start, winning, 9-1.

Indians starter Trevor Bauer was knocked around for five runs on six hits and walk in just 1 2/3 innings.

It was Mookie Betts who broke the game open in the second inning with a bases-clearing double to put the Red Sox up, 4-0.

That was more than enough for Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez who pitched 8.0 innings of one-run ball, allowing just a solo home run to Michael Brantley in the 7th inning.

Rodriguez allowed just six hits and didn't walk a batter on the night, while striking out five.

David Ortiz cracked his 1,079 extra-base hit of his career in the first inning, narrowly missing a home run to right field. The extra-base hit puts him in sole possession of 22nd on the all-time list, passing Cal Ripken Jr. He'd double again in the 5th inning, putting him at 1,080, nine away from Jim Thome for 21st all-time.

Travis Shaw finished the day 4-for-4 with four singles and two runs. He became the first player in the last 100 years to record more than one four-plus hit performance within his first 22 major league games.

Brock Holt continued his hot streak with three hits including a triple. He's now batting .482 with seven runs and eight RBI during his current six-game homestand.
