Red Sox minor league pitcher critically injured in Florida car crash

Red Sox minor league pitcher Kevin Steen, 20, was critically injured when his SUV was hit by another car in Lehigh Acres, Fla., late Wednesday night, FOX4 in Fort Myers reported.

Steen, a ninth-round draft pick in 2014, is a right-hander from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, who pitched for the Single-A Lowell Spinners the past two seasons. FOX4 reports that Steem was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he’s in critical condition.

The driver of the other car was killed. The Florida Highway Patrol has not released the identity of the driver, whose car, heading eastbound, veered off the road, crossed the median, went airborne then crashed into Steen’s SUV, which caught fire.
