Highlights from the Red Sox' 5-1 win over the Indians

FINAL SCORE: Red Sox 5, Indians 1

IN BRIEF: It was another big day at the plate for the left side of the Red Sox infield, as Xander Bogaerts (3-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI) and Rafael Devers (2-4, HR) combined to drive in all five runs as the Red Sox pulled out a victory in Cleveland in the series finale against the Indians.

BOX SCORE

RED SOX RECORD: 64-59

HIGHLIGHTS

3rd Inning:

One day after setting becoming the first player in the live-ball era to have a 6-for-6 day with four doubles, Rafael Devers stays hot at the plate with a solo home run to left field, his second hit of the day in as many at-bats. (1-0 BOS)

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Devers became the first Red Sox player since 1938 with hits in eight consecutive plate appearances — and the first Red Sox player since Ted Williams with a 25-HR, 40-double season before turning 23.

Xander Bogaerts follows the Devers blast with a solo home run of his own, just clearing the fence in the right field corner for his 26th homer of the season — and the 100th of his major league career, joining a select group of Red Sox shortstops. (2-0 BOS)

After errors from both Bogaerts and Devers allow Francisco Lindor to reach third base, he scores on a wild pitch from Sox starter Brian Johnson. (2-1 BOS)

7th Inning:

After Terry Francona decides to intentionally walk Devers with first base open, Bogaerts makes the Indians pay with his second home run of the day, a 3-run shot to left off Nick Goody. (5-1 BOS)

9th Inning:

Brandon Workman finishes off a strong outing for the Red Sox bullpen, as six relievers (Marcus Walden, Darwinzon Hernandez, Josh Taylor, Nathan Eovaldi, Andrew Cashner, Workman) allow just two hits over 6.1 scoreless innings in relief of Brian Johnson.
