Bertrand: Was Victorino signing good for Sox?

Shane Victorino came to the Red Sox on a three-year, $39 million contract.

Of course, the Red Sox won the World Series in 2013 and Victorino was an integral part of that team. But over the last two years, he had trouble staying healthy and only played 63 games combined.

So was the contract worth it?

"Was it worth it? Yeah, in the end it was. Any time you win it all, yeah it was worth it," Marc Bertrand said. "Same way you make a trade for Josh Beckett. You may have overpaid but you say it's worth it at the time. I’d probably pay more than that if you can guarantee a World Series. But it doesn’t mean it’s a good contract. For one playoff series, don’t tell me it was worth a three-year deal. It all happened in year one, not years two and three, which we’re on now. Why was he even here for year three?"
