Abraham: Red Sox will have same model as Cubs

The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham joined Toucher & Rich on Wednesday morning to discuss the Boston Red Sox’ hiring of Dave Dombrowski and the plan going forward.

Abraham believes that Dombrowski will be the one making the “big decisions,” and the general manager will take more of an administrator role. He also speculates that former Atlanta Braves GM Frank Wren could replace Ben Cherington.

“[Wren is] somebody who has worked with Dombrowski before when he was with the Marlins. I don’t know that it necessarily matters who it is, because Dombrowski is the guy who’s going to be making the decisions,” Abraham said.

“The model the Red Sox will have is the same one the Cubs and some other teams have, where the president of baseball operations is the guy who makes the decisions and the GM is under him. The GM in that sense becomes more of an administrator, than the guy who makes decisions.”
