Running back Jonas Gray put together a quality performance for the New England Patriots in the 22-11 loss to the Green Bay Packers to kick off the preseason schedule.
The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe lauded Gray's 6 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown with LeGarrette Blount sidelined for the contest.
"Hats off to him tonight," said Howe. "He had to step up in LeGarrette Blount's absence - they clearly have to do that right away in Week 1 against the Steelers why Blount is suspended. He's their guy who has to be Blount's backup between the tackles.
"Is Jonas Gray going to beat LeGarrette Blount? No. I think LeGarrette Blount has actually had a tremendous camp before that knee injury that he's continuing to rest. From there, there's a significant drop-off to Jonas Gray. But what we saw tonight was a guy who could be a capable backup as long as Blount stays healthy."
