BOSTON — The Tobin Community Center was full of exuberant, loud, cross-over dribbling, shot-blocking, shot-making ballers in elementary and middle school from the Greater Boston area.
And in came Gordon Hayward with an ear-to-ear-grin from the time he arrived until he left.
You can say Daddy was Happy for sure.
And so were the young girls who participated in the Jr. Celtics basketball camp as part of the “Her Time to Play” national initiative designed to get more girls 7-14 to play basketball in a positive and healthy way.
Events such as Wednesday’s Jr. Celtics basketball camp hold a near and dear place in the heart of the Hayward family.
The reveal of Gordon and Robyn Hayward’s third child last year went viral when Hayward was asked by Robyn if he was happy to be having a third girl and Gordon replied, “Daddy’s always happy!”

“This is definitely going to be my life in the future,” Hayward told NBC Sports Boston. “Just excited to get a chance to let them (his two daughters) come and my wife come as well and interact with these girls and kind of just show them that hard work and a little bit of dedication, you can do whatever you want.”
Robyn, along with two of their children, participated in camp.
“I think it’s so important that girls be encouraged to play because you always hear about boys playing but it’s a girl’s sport too,” Robyn told NBC Sports Boston.
And while the girls at the camp were older than her two children participating, they still had a good time.
“It was fun for them to see all these young girls have the opportunity and have the focus just on them,” Robyn said. “Hopefully it can become something we do every year here.”
