UPDATE (11:33 a.m. ET): The Boston Celtics are bringing back an old friend.

The Celtics signed guard Jonathan Gibson ahead of Tuesday's game against the Washington Wizards, the team announced.

Gibson, who appeared in four games for the Celtics last season, most recently played for the Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association and got some serious buckets, averaging 33.1 points per game in China over 44 contests.

The 31-year-old joined the C's for the end of the 2017-18 regular season and had a memorable season finale, dropping 18 points in a win over the Brooklyn Nets.

ORIGINAL STORY: Better late than never, right?

The Boston Celtics have an open roster spot entering their regular season finale against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night, and according to The Boston Globe's Gary Washburn, they plan to fill it.

The Celtics may have no choice but to add an extra body for Tuesday's game, considering they've already ruled out seven players and listed another as questionable for what could feel like a G-League contest.

What's more intriguing, though, is if that body sticks around for Boston's playoff push. While the dust long has settled on the NBA's buyout market, there still are many unemployed veterans the Celtics could pluck from free agency ahead of their first-round playoff series with the Indiana Pacers.

According to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, Gibson's deal is just for the remainder of the season.

Tip-off in Washington is set for 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, so if Danny Ainge plans on making one more roster move, it should be in the coming hours.
