Ramirez works out at first base, is a ‘very good student'

With the outfield of Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Rusney Castillo becoming the go-to trio for the Boston Red Sox, Hanley Ramirez was seen working out at first base on Tuesday.

Third base coach and infield instructor Brian Butterfield made it clear that Ramirez' workout was an introduction.

"Getting his feet around the base so he can get to an anchor," Butterfield told reporters. "We talked about adjusting to throws. Not a lot of drillwork involved, just a lot of talk. David was out there with me and he was very helpful. He’s a very good student of first base.”

Ramirez signed a four-year, $88 million contract this winter to become the team's everyday left fielder after playing shortstop and third base, but he has struggled quite a bit transitioning to the outfield.
