Christian Arroyo exits Sunday's Sox-Royals game with injury

Christian Arroyo was forced out of Sunday's game between the Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals with an apparent leg injury.

The Red Sox second baseman suffered the injury on a collision with center fielder Kiké Hernández in the fifth inning. You can watch the play below:

Arroyo gingerly walked off the field with help from the Red Sox training staff. Marwin Gonzalez entered the game to replace Arroyo at second.

The severity of Arroyo's injury currently is unclear, but there's no doubt it would hurt the Red Sox to lose him for any period of time. The 2013 first-round draft pick has been one of Boston's most clutch players in 2021. He crushed a game-tying three-run home run against the Houston Astros on June 10, a game-tying solo shot vs. the Toronto Blue Jays the following night, and a grand slam to propel the Red Sox to victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.

Arroyo is hitting .262/.323/.434 with four home runs and 19 RBI this season.
