BOSTON - Without boring you and new Red Sox President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski with baseball analytics, just know that what Jackie Bradley Jr. did on Wednesday could only benefit his WAR.
Bradley, undoubtedly, has improved his WAR - that's wins above replacement - since he started to get more playing time for the Red Sox, regardless of where in the outfield.
What he's done at the plate has been a pleasant surprise over his last eight games, where he's crushed four home runs and driven in a whopping 16 runs. He's also got a career-best 11-game on-base streak.
But while the offensive attack is something new, the effortless defensive show he puts on in the outfield is something he's been known for since he first came on the scene in 2013.
On Wednesday, he made one of his best catches yet.
With one out in the first inning, Francisco Lindor connected on a Joe Kelly pitch that was screaming for the wall to the left of the triangle. Bradley broke directly back on the ball as soon as it was hit, twisting and turning his body as he raced backwards towards the wall.
At the last second - and about halfway onto the warning track - Bradley reached across his body and reeled in the catch over his right shoulder. (WATCH)
What was sure to be at least a double was instead the second out of the inning.
"One of the best catches I've ever seen," Kelly gushed. "I was messing around with him, I was calling him OBJ - Odell Beckham Jr. - pretty fun to watch."
OBJ has a couple highlight-reel catches of his own with the New York Giants, but JBJ's reel is looking more impressive by the game.
Bradley himself admitted it was one of the tougher catches he's made.
"It was hit really well, so one of those ones where again you're just guessing where the spot is," Bradley said. "I guess I was pretty close and then just trying to get turned around trying to make an acrobatic catch."
As if that wasn't enough, Bradley struck again in the 4th inning, this time at the plate. With two on and two out in a 2-2 count against Corey Kluber, Bradley poked one opposite field that just got up and over the Green Monster. It actually hit the base of one of the light-towers and bounced back onto the field. (WATCH)
"I didn't think it was a home run," Bradley said. "Off the bat I just tucked my head and I started running. When I saw the outfielder playing the ball I played it like it was a double off the wall so I didn't even know it went over."
Sure enough, the umpires determined without a review that it was in fact a home run.
At this rate, everybody better get used to it.
