State of the Revs: Oct. 16

The Revolution are one point out of the final playoff spot in the East heading into their regular-season home finale Saturday against the Columbus Crew at Gillette Stadium.

The Revs will have to make their final playoff push without forward Saer Sene, who sustained a devastating leg and ankle injry in a 1-0 victory in Montreal and faces a 4-6 month rehab after surgery.

Revs coach Jay Heaps talked with Jessica Camerato about the loss of Sene on this week's edition of "State of the Revs."

"It was a devastating moment for both teams," Heaps said of the Sene injury. "He such an important part of our team. You feel for the player but you know you have a job to do. It would be a double hit if you don't go out and perform as best you can when a player is hurt."

Heaps said he tried to make the injury a unifying factor for the Revs.

"We faced it head on," he said. "You acknowledge it and use it to bring everyone together."

As for the last two regular season games, Heaps said the Revs approach has been not to overlook the little things.

"Attention to detail is really key for these last few games," he said.

Meanwhile, it's taken some time, but Revs 18-year-old midfielder Diego Fagundez is already sporting a playoff beard.

In reflecting on his whirlwind first season, Fagundez said the Revs "knew to take my development slow, step by step. I knew I had to wait for my time."

"When I got my chance, I knew I needed to shine," he said.

Fagundez has done that with 12 goals and five assists in 29 games.
