With the imminent departure of Larry Lucchino, the Red Sox should take the opportunity to restructure their front office and put a baseball man -- a "roster builder" -- in charge of the team.
At least that's what Tony Massarotti thinks.
Lucchino, said Massarotti on Monday's Felger & Mazz show, broadcast on 98.5 The Sports Hub and simulcast on Comcast SportsNet, "wasn't a roster builder. I want a roster builder."
Said Massarotti: "Larry was a lawyer who was a negotiator and a business guy, but he wasn't an evaluator . . . I want a baseball guy on the baseball side."
And why?
"I want the guy above the GM to be a guy who's a roster builder. Especially if you're going to overrule [the general manager] the way they overruled [Ben Cherington]."
