While Sunday marks the New England Revolution's regular-season finale, for the first time in four years, it doesn't also serve as their last game of the year.
The Revs have already punched their postseason ticket — their first since 2015 — but there are still several things to be determined on MLS Decision Day: who they'll face in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs, where the game will be, and when that game will take place.
New England is locked into either sixth or seventh place in the Eastern Conference, and they'll play either Atlanta United FC (their opponent Sunday afternoon) or the Philadelphia Union on October 19 or 20.
Here's how the scenarios break down:
If the Revs beat Atlanta United FC Sunday...
- The Revs will be the 6th seed in the East if Toronto FC loses to Columbus
- They'll face Atlanta United FC if Philadelphia defeats or ties NYCFC
- They'll face Philadelphia if Philadelphia loses to NYCFC
- The Revs will be the 7th seed in the East if Toronto FC defeats or ties Columbus
- They'll face Philadelphia if Philadelphia defeats or ties NYCFC
- They'll face Atlanta if Philadelphia loses to NYCFC
If the Revs draw with Atlanta United FC Sunday...
- The Revs will be the 7th seed in the East
- They'll face Philadelphia if Philadelphia defeats NYCFC
- They'll face Atlanta if Philadelphia loses to or ties NYCFC
If the Revs lose to Atlanta United FC Sunday...
- The Revs will be the 7th seed in the East & will face Atlanta in Round 1 of the playoffs
