The Bruins beat the New Jersey Devils in Game 7 of the Prince of Wales conference final on this date in 1988. Boston took a 3-2 series lead with a 7-1 win in Game 5 at the old Boston Garden, but the B's were unable to close out the series back in New Jersey. A Game 7 was needed to decide which team would face the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final.

The Bruins took a 3-0 lead and never looked back, earning a 6-2 win to eliminate the Devils. Boston would eventually be swept by Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers in the Cup Final.

May 14 also was the date of the Bruins' 2-1 win in Game 3 of their 2019 Eastern Conference Final series versus the Carolina Hurricanes. Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask gave a fantastic performance with 35 saves on 36 shots.

Boston eventually swept Carolina before losing to the St. Louis Blues in a seven-game Stanley Cup Final matchup.

May 14 also has seen plenty of Bruins losses, including three recent Game 7 defeats in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

One came in 2009 against the Carolina Hurricanes when Scott Walker scored in overtime for a 3-2 victory, and then again in 2014 when the rival Montreal Canadiens ended Boston's Presidents' Trophy-winning season with a 3-1 win. The worst of the Game 7 defeats was in 2010. The Flyers lost the first three games of their conference semifinals series versus the Bruins, but they bounced back and forced a Game 7. Despite taking a 3-0 lead in the first period, the Bruins blew the game and the series with a 4-3 loss. The Bruins became the third team in league history to lose a Best-of-7 series after leading it 3-0.

All three of these losses happened in Boston.

Here's a recap of some other Bruins games played on May 14:

1977, Stanley Cup Final: 2-1 loss in OT vs. Canadiens
