In addition, the team named Ryan Mougenel as head coach of the Providence Bruins to replace Jay Leach, who left for an assistant coaching job with the expansion Seattle Kraken.
Kelly and McQuaid were each members of Boston's most recent championship team, which still features Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand on the active roster.
Kelly, who spent parts of six seasons (2011-16) in Boston, had served as player development coordinator for the Bruins the last two years. A forward capable of playing both center and left wing, Kelly was acquired by the team prior to the trade deadline in 2011 and scored a career-best 39 points (20 goals, 19 assists) the following season.

He joins a coaching room with Joe Sacco, Kevin Dean and Bob Essensa as assistants under Cassidy.
McQuaid, a rugged defenseman, played nine years in Boston (2009-18), posting a career-best 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) during the team's Cup run in 2010-11. This will be his first job in an NHL front office.
