NFL rumors: Salary details of Brian Hoyer’s Patriots contract revealed

The New England Patriots agreed to sign veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer over the weekend, and the addition came at a pretty low cost for the team.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday the salary details of Hoyer's contract, which includes money from both the Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.

This will be Hoyer's third stint with the Patriots. He was most recently on the roster before last season but couldn't beat out rookie quarterback Jarrett Stidham for the backup job. The Patriots released Hoyer before Week 1 of the 2019 campaign, and he ultimately signed with the Indianapolis Colts to be former Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett's backup.

Hoyer now will have a chance to compete for the starting job with the Patriots following Tom Brady's free agent departure to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New England currently has Cody Kessler, Stidham and Hoyer on its quarterback depth chart. Stidham is the favorite to win the job, but Hoyer has by far the most experience of that trio.
