A lot of emotions are running through me right now.

I’m angry and frustrated by the current state of our country. I’m frustrated and angered about the treatment of African Americans in our country. By the police, institutions and fellow citizens.

Racism is alive in our country. It’s something I’ve experienced on more than one occasion.

I’m frustrated and angry at the rioters and looters. They’ve taken the focus away from the murder of George Floyd and the racism which is so deeply rooted in our society.

I’m frustrated and angry at how divided we are as a nation. How empathy has been replaced by selfishness.

Neighbors are turning against neighbors. People who I thought were friends and would understand my pain and frustration are friends no more. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve had to block or delete off of social media.

I’m angry.

I’m angry I have to discuss with my two kids (10 and 8) that some people will treat them differently because of the color of their skin. They’ve recognized the differences between them and their friends but they’re accepting of those differences. It’s not a big deal to them.

I’m frustrated and angry because I wish I could do more. I wish I had a solution to America’s problems. I wish I could convince all Americans to love and respect one another.

I wish we could have civil discourse, where people actually listen, understand and learn.

I’m frustrated, angry and heartbroken right now.

Something must be done. Solutions need to be found.

We must come together.
