Report: NBA grants Celtics disabled-player exception for Hayward

The Celtics have been granted an $8.4 million disabled-player exception for the injury of Gordon Hayward, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Within the $8.4 million exception, the C's can sign a player or trade for a player in the final year of his contract by the March 10 deadline.

Hayward is still eligible to return this season if healthy.

The Celtics released a statement last week indicating Hayward underwent successful “bony and ligamentous stabilization surgery for the fracture dislocation of his left ankle.”

Hayward suffered a dislocated left ankle and fractured tibia in the first quarter of Boston’s 102-99 season-opening loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Danny Ainge provided an update on Hayward on Thursday morning's episode of Toucher and Rich.
