It started well: An eight-pitch, 1-2-3 first inning. And a routine dispatching of Mike Napoli on a grounder to short to start the second.
Then -- as has happened throughout his career, be it in Tampa Bay, Detroit, Toronto and now Boston -- the postseason roof fell in on David Price.
Carlos Santana singled to left. Jose Ramirez topped an infield hit to third. Brandon Guyer blooped a single into center, just out of Xander Bogaerts' reach, that scored a run.
Followed by:
4-0 Indians.
His day ended in the fourth inning when, after putting another runner on base, he was lifted in favor of Matt Barnes. Barnes allowed the run to score, leaving Price's final line as:
Boston Red Sox
3 1/3 innings pitched
6 hits
5 runs, all earned
2 walks
3 strikeouts
And David Price's inexplicable inability to pitch well in the playoffs shows no signs of abating.
