WATCH: Amonte explains why Svechnikov hit on Lindholm wasn't dirty

The most memorable moment from the Bruins' Game 2 loss to the Hurricanes on Wednesday night was Carolina forward Andrei Svechnikov knocking Boston defenseman Hampus Lindholm out of the game with an enormous hit in the second period.

Lindholm likely didn't see Svechnikov coming and was absolutely drilled into the ice. The veteran d-man looked a bit wobbly when he finally stood up and had to be helped off the ice by a few teammates.

The referees didn't penalize Svechnikov for the hit, although the Bruins ended up on the penalty kill as a result of their response to the incident.

There was plenty of debate on social media over whether the Department of Player Safety should look at the hit and potentially discipline Svechnikov.

One person who didn't view the play as dirty was former NHL player Tony Amonte.

"I think this is a big-time hockey hit," Amonte said on NBC Sports Boston's "Boston Sports Tonight".

"He goes right through his chest. And the tell-tale sign when he goes through the chest is he breaks his stick. You see Hampus Lindholm, he's on the ground, he's holding the butt of his stick. It's just a violent check. It is disturbing to watch. But he goes right through the chest. He's not targeting the head. He doesn't jump. ... That's a tremendous hit by a big, physical guy."

Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy didn't have a definitive update on Lindholm following the game. However, he did say that the veteran defenseman was "not doing well."

Lindholm is the Bruins' second-best defenseman and a key part of their success at 5-on-5 and special teams. It would be a huge blow to Boston's lineup if he misses any more time in this series.
