Morning Skate: Nationals players jump on the Caps bandwagon

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while the Washington Capitals stand on the edge of their first Stanley Cup championship in 43 years of franchise history. They certainly look to be winning both the battle and the war against the Golden Knights, and also finally living up to their massive potential.

-- Cool open to Hockey Night in Canada’s coverage of Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals, as they focused on the parents of the players for both the Capitals and Golden Knights.

-- Ryan Merkley is the most controversial player in the upcoming draft class, but he is set for his moment in whatever round it happens to arrive.

-- Pretty fun to see Washington Nationals players Max Scherzer and Ryan Zimmerman all decked out in hockey gear, leading the Caps crowd in cheers prior to Game 4.

-- Speaking of the NHL Draft, Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin was in attendance for Game 4 as well and got a taste of what awaits him in the best hockey league in the world after he’s selected No. 1 overall by the Buffalo Sabres.

-- T.J. Oshie once again took the Metro train to the game for Game 4 against the Golden Knights and it ended up working out pretty well for both him and for his team.

-- It’s hard to believe Chris Chelios is 56 years old, but it’s not hard to believe at all that he still keeps himself in tip-top shape.

-- Reality also seems to have hit the Golden Knights as they’re down 3-1 in the series against a better, deeper team, and now their carriage seems to be turning back into a pumpkin.

-- For something completely different: If you’re looking for a pretty accurate, frank discussion of the current state of Star Wars after Solo bombed at the box office, this podcast is it.
