Morning Skate: Habs struggling to sell out home opener

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while officially on board with the Last Jedi trailer.

*It looks like there are still some tickets available for the Habs home opener, which is unthinkable for the Bell Centre. That kind of tells you the uneasiness with which Canadiens fans are looking at their hockey team up in Montreal right now with them off to such an uninspiring start. I hate to say I told you see, but the Habs fans are getting something very similar to Michel Therrien in Claude Julien: A conservative coach that’s always going to choose defense and veteran savvy over offense and youthful excitement, and somebody that is going to struggle at times to generate the necessary offense and finish. I think he’s one of the best people in the NHL off the ice in terms of class and grace, but he’s a bit of a dinosaur in the new fast, skilled and youthful NHL.

*Examining the contributions and journeys to the NHL for a pair of college players in Will Butcher and Alex Kerfoot that have been tangentially connected along the way.

*Former Boston College defenseman Mark Matheson makes it a long term commitment with the Florida Panthers and signs an eight year deal with the organization.

*Is Auston Matthews ready to take the USA Hockey mantle away from Patrick Kane after a stellar opening to his sophomore season?

*Vegas is hoping that tonight’s Golden Knights home opener is going to help the Las Vegas community heal after last week’s horrific shooting massacre.

*For something completely different: As I said before, I am completely on board with the Star Wars trailer. Sign me up and get me the tickets.
