Friday, Oct. 7: Obama can't resist poking fun at Kessel

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, while being thoroughly unimpressed with the Red Sox on a couple of fronts in Game 1 vs. the Cleveland Indians. A lot of players looked like their cages were rattled a bit by the playoff pressure.

*President Barack Obama welcomed the Pittsburgh Penguins to the White House and poked a little fun at Phil Kessel right off the bat.

*Loui Eriksson joined the TSN sports radio station in Vancouver to talk about his future with the Canucks, and skating with the Sedins.

*Connor McDavid has become the youngest captain in Edmonton Oilers history. It will be interesting to see how things play out with the Oil, but it will be good for McDavid to have Milan Lucic as his right-hand man.

*PHT writer James O’Brien lets us all know that Jaromir Jagr isn’t scared of Hurricane Matthew as it blows through Florida.

*Speaking of Lucic, he threw a big “welcome to the NHL” hit on Blue Jackets rookie Kyle Connor that served as one of a few encouraging things for Edmonton in a preseason win.

*There are a bevy of teams that could potentially play the favorite role in the Western Conference this season, which leaves things pretty wide open.

*Jimmy Vesey is learning plenty from the preseason, and is ready for the big, wide world of the NHL after his late stint at summer hockey school.

*For something completely different: good piece on Tom Brady’s motivation for revenge as he returns to the Patriots this weekend.
