Bruins sign Zacha to one-year, $3.5 million contract to avoid arbitration

Arbitration won't be needed for the Boston Bruins and Pavel Zacha.

The B's announced Monday they have signed him to a one-year contract worth $3.5 million. Zacha's arbitration hearing was scheduled for Aug. 11. Teams and players typically try to find common ground and avoid arbitration, and that's what happened here.

Pavel Zacha trade: What Bruins fans need to know about versatile forward

The Bruins acquired Zacha from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for veteran forward Erik Haula last month. Zacha is a versatile player whose natural position is center, but he can play left wing, too.

The 25-year-old forward tallied a career-high 36 points (15 goals, 21 assists) in 70 games for the Devils last season. He was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

The Bruins have been busy Monday. In addition to the Zacha news, they also announced one-year contracts for veteran centers Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci.
