Tom Brady offered No. 12 to new Patriots wide receiver Mohamed Sanu

FOXBORO -- Mohamed Sanu has worn No. 12 throughout his professional football career, so a number change was the first adjustment the wide receiver had to make upon being traded to New England.

That's because that number belongs to a guy named Tom Brady. The No. 12 has become an integral part of the 42-year-old quarterback's brand both on and off the field. It's impossible to picture anyone else wearing it with the Patriots from this point forward, and it's safe to say when Brady hangs 'em up for good, it probably won't be worn again.

But apparently, the offer was placed on the table for Sanu to take the number when Brady initially reached out to him after Tuesday's trade.

"He said welcome and everything like that," Sanu said on Friday "And he asked if I wanted 12 and I was like nah, you got that."

Hey, it was nice of Brady to ask, although we can't imagine a scenario in which Brady actually parts ways with the iconic number that has helped shape his persona. Plus, "MS12" just doesn't quite roll off the tongue.

Sanu, wearing No. 14, will make his Pats debut on Sunday vs. the Cleveland Browns with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. ET. Be sure to tune in to NBC Sports Boston for Pregame Live at 2:30 p.m. ET, then Postgame Live immediately after the Week 8 matchup.
