Tom Brady has been through this before, and he's not counting his chickens before they hatch.
The New England Patriots quarterback was asked Wednesday morning about his team's trade for Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Mohamed Sanu.
And while he's pleased to have the seasoned veteran on board, Brady knows Sanu has plenty of work in front of him.
"I think those things, they remain to be seen," Brady told WEEI's "The Greg Hill Show" when asked what Sanu can bring to New England's offense. "I think it's one thing to talk about it, and it's another thing to go out and do it.
"I'm excited to have him. I've watched him for a long time. I've just heard great things from a lot of people who have been around him.
"Coach (Bill Belichick) always says, 'Your role is what you make of it,' and that's really to be determined by what we do in the meetings and (on) the practice field so we can gain confidence and trust as quickly as possible and go out and try to help us do a better job scoring points."
Brady already has seen two talented receivers come and go this season in Demaryius Thomas and Antonio Brown, and has worked with plenty of pass-catchers over the years who haven't panned out.

Sanu should be a safer bet than Thomas and Brown -- he's only missed two games in his last six-plus NFL seasons, and the Patriots traded a second-round pick to get him -- but Brady still wants to see how things play out.
"I'm not sure (how he'll fit in)," Brady added. "I've never been around him or anything like that. We'll just have to see how it goes and try to improve day-to-day. I know that sounds like a cliche answer, but that's the truth.
"When you've been in a different offense for a long period of time, it's not like you just come in and you just know everything. He certainly knows how to play football and play it at a very high level, so that obviously helps, but it's just learning our terminology and then, again, just working at it together."
Sanu, who spent the previous three-plus seasons in Atlanta, will have to get up to speed quickly on a short week for New England, which hosts the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
