Relive Patriots raising first banner in first game at Gillette Stadium

The New England Patriots will raise banner No. 6 before taking the field vs. the Steelers on Sunday night. They had a similar night at Gillette Stadium 17 years ago.

On Sept. 9. 2002, the Pats celebrated their first Super Bowl championship in franchise history -- a thrilling 20-17 victory over the St. Louis Rams. The ceremony took place before the first-ever game played at Gillette which came against, you guessed it, the Steelers.

Relive the unforgettable night below:

New England followed the celebration with a 30-14 win over Pittsburgh, but would finish 9-7 on the year and miss the playoffs. The five championships since then have made up for that down season.

The Patriots will kick off their quest for banner No. 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
