Tom Brady "falling off a cliff"? Not so fast.
Brady will appear in his ninth Super Bowl on Feb. 3. The 41-year-old Patriots quarterback recently said there is "zero" chance he is retiring after the Super Bowl, and reiterated his desire to play until age 45.
On the latest edition of The Michael Holley Podcast presented by Night Shift Brewing, Phil Simms explained why Brady's goal isn't a farfetched one.
"The game has changed, [quarterbacks] can take better care of themselves, they have more stuff available to them," Simms said. "I mean, I walk out to the practice field some days and go, 'How am I going to throw the ball? I am so stiff and beat up and all this.' But now, they don't go through that, you know? They know how to take care of themselves. They got all this new, whatever, to keep them fixed and keep the soreness out and prevent injuries. The rules have changed for quarterbacks. I think it's in some degrees easier, because the rule changes. And the knowledge, oh, I think I might be more jealous about the knowledge than I am about the money, you know?"
"To answer your question about Tom Brady, the great thing about him is, he has done such a magnificent job of course with his body and all that, but his arm," Simms continued. "His throwing arm. He keeps perfecting how to throw a football. And you know, you don't lose that arm strength with a football like you do in baseball. A guy throws 99 miles per hour one year and the next he's throwing low 90s. In the NFL, that doesn't happen. I would say he's probably throwing as close to as hard and as easy as he ever has in his career. So, I laugh when he says he's going to play until 45 because that's a great thing to say, it gives you good publicity, but I'm starting to believe he's going to make it."
