Patriots, Rob Gronkowski restructure contract

Rob Gronkowski and the Patriots finally agreed to restructure the All-Pro tight end's contract Thursday. $4.3 million will be added to Gronkowski's deal this year.

$3.3 million of the total is incentive-based and the additional $1 million was added in per-game bonuses, Adam Schefter reports. He can now make up to $13.3 million in 2018.

The $3.3 million in incentives is broken up as such:

  • $1.1 million for 80 percent playing time
  • $1.1 million for 70 catches or more
  • $1.1 million for nine or more touchdowns catches
  • $1.1 million 1,085 receiving yards.

Gronkowski had 69 receptions, 1,084 receiving yards and eight touchdowns last season. He could complete all of these incentives, but can only receive $3.3 million.

The Patriots restructured Tom Brady's contract more than three weeks ago, adding $5 million in incentives his contract. It also increased the amount of money the Patriots would be responsible for if Brady was traded, cut or decided to retire.
