FOXBORO -- The Patriots continued to add depth at the receiver position by bringing Shaq Evans to their practice squad.
Evans was a fourth-round pick of the Jets in 2014 out of UCLA. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder was placed on injured reserve before the start of his rookie season, and spent parts of 2015 on the Jaguars practice squad. He has not played in a regular season game in his career.
Evans joins DeAndrew White and Devin Lucien as wideouts on the 10-man practice-squad unit. Dedicating 30 percent of the practice squad to that position may be deemed necessary by the Patriots as they have just four true receivers on their active roster. Evans was at Wednesday's practice and wearing No. 84. The only practice-squad player not spotted was Glenn Gronkowski, indicating that the team has swapped out the fullback in order to make room for the receiver.
