FOXBORO -- Malcolm Mitchell came to the defense of his quarterback after Jacoby Brissett was bumped by Bills safety Robert Blanton. File under: Trying to Get in the Head of the Rookie Quarterback.
The pair of Patriots rookies exited the locker room and ran along the home team's sideline before finishing up their pregame warm-up process. As Mitchell and Brissett worked their way back toward their half of the field to stretch and throw, Blanton crossed in front of and bumped Brissett.
Brissett, who is starting for the Patriots on Sunday, continued on his way without slowing down. Mitchell, however, took exception and went back at Blanton for what he felt like was an unsportsmanlike gesture. The two jawed back and forth at each other and other Bills players became involved briefly before coaches broke up the scrap. Patriots receivers coach Chad O'Shea and special teams assistant Ray Ventrone were involved in restoring order.
