Jay Feely describes competitive relationship with close friend Tom Brady

Tom Brady's competitive spirit extends far beyond the football field.

On the latest edition of The Michael Holley Podcast presented by Night Shift Brewing, former NFL kicker Jay Feely told a couple of hilarious stories about Brady -- his close friend and former teammate at Michigan -- and his competitiveness. The first story highlighted what happened one day when Feely and Brady went golfing.

"We were playing golf at the Boston Golf Club, and he was used to beating me all the time in college," Feely said. "And then now he says he doesn't get to practice enough. So now when he gets beat, he's not happy. There may have been a club broken, you know, along the way in there when he wasn't happy that he was getting beat by his old college friend. You know, the short stocky guy is beating this big, tall, awesome athlete and a quarterback."

Feely also reminisced on a time he and Brady played a game of backgammon.

"We were playing backgammon one time. I mean, he loves to play backgammon, and I started beating him. And the backgammon board and all the pieces went flying. Like, he just threw the whole board and I said, 'ok I think the game's over with."

"Everybody wonders how he's played into his 40s and continued to play at such a high level," Feely added. "It's because he has such inner drive. You know, and he has a competitiveness that doesn't come from wanting money or fame or fortune or any of these things. He just wants to be the best at everything that he does."
